Nova Lands is an open-world factory building, exploration, and island management game. Explore the planet you're on, automate your industry with handy bots, take on challenges and complete quests, by force or negotiation.
With Nova Lands, I discovered a small management/exploration game that captivated me with its clever mix between farming, automation and discovery of mysterious islands. You start modestly with a few tools, then very quickly you learn to build machines, automate the harvesting of resources and expand your territory by exploring new areas. The feeling of progress is constant and rather rewarding.
What I really appreciated was the smooth and accessible way to get started. You don't need to be an expert in management games to dive into it: everything settles in little by little, and you quickly feel like you're growing wings when your little factories start to run on their own. Exploring the islands adds a real curiosity and breaks the routine, sometimes with creatures to tame or rare resources to find. The pixel art aesthetic is cute and colorful, reinforcing this cozy side while keeping a steady pace.
On the other hand, the game can give the impression of repetitiveness once the foundations are laid: you chain a lot of similar constructions together and the automation sometimes makes the experience a little too passive. Some fights or interactions with creatures are also quite light, almost anecdotal compared to the rest. And if you're looking for a rich story, you may be a little disappointed, because Nova Lands relies above all on pure gameplay.
In short, Nova Lands is a nice nugget for lovers of "chill" management and automation, who will appreciate seeing their little world run on its own, but it will especially suit those who like the pleasure of the well-oiled system more than a scripted adventure.
