Today !!!

How about a new adventure in the land of books? This time, it's a press release from Alice Nevoso, whose name you may know since she's written other novels. Ready to follow me? We're heading to "the taste of roasted pistachios on a summer evening"!

A very summery or springy cover, the choice is yours, in any case we don't feel cold looking at it and we suspect that it will be a cozy read, which will be there to do us good. And it is the case, we are not mistaken at all because where the author takes us is indeed feelgood.

Émilie, 37, is a translator by day and a romance novelist by night. Coming from a very conformist family, she doesn't take kindly to writing tender and light love stories and carefully hides this from those close to her. When she meets Leïla, an ambitious waitress with a strong character, and Bastien, a drama teacher with green eyes and astonishing clairvoyance, she has no idea that they will shake up her beliefs and that she will have to confront her archaic fears...

This novel is about self-confidence and artistic creation, mother-daughter relationships, walk-in showers, and love, of course!

I needed some tenderness and this novel immersed me in it, did me good. Seeing the heroine move forward little by little following her encounters, seeing her face her fears was, perhaps, what I needed at this time when I doubt many things, including myself.

Self-confidence, artistic creation. It's normal that this speaks to me. I have very little confidence and I'm also creative. So, yes, I found myself in Emilie even if for certain things... Not. At. All. The themes are, in any case, not glossed over. Very present, touching where it's needed and that feels good because it often happens that this is not the case, that these are only secondary elements.

The turns of phrase are fluid, they carry us into the story, the discussions, the progress, everything there is to go through. The text is easy to read, everything is light in itself so that we don't forget the daily life, so that we lose ourselves for a few moments in this bubble. Which may not please some, those looking for action, epic situations. No. Here, we are in a daily life with people with their doubts, their weaknesses, their strengths. Although I was not bored, I suspect that some people will not appreciate the present rhythm which is not slow. But tastes are in nature.

The characters are endearing, even if naturally... I sometimes wanted to shake some of them at times. The relationships are sweet, I grew closer to them throughout my reading and it was a sweet pleasure to leave the work telling myself that it ended like this. They accompanied me, made me think, rage, smile... That's all I needed, on my side.

So yes, this kind of reading won't appeal to everyone as I mentioned above, but in cases where you need to sit down, take a breath, forget about your day a little, this novel really does its job well. A bit like... well... A roasted pistachio that you nibble on quietly, that you savor while just enjoying the sun and putting aside what's bothering you.

As you read, I had a lovely time and I don't regret reading it. The author's writing was a delight to discover and I hope to be able to discover more of her books in the future.

Would you consider reading it?
