A new day and a new review on the blog, but before that: How are you? I hope everything is going well on your side? Take care of yourselves anyway. Today, it will be a sequel that you will be entitled to. If you want the review of volume 1, it's here . Otherwise... Follow me!

A double murder is committed in Heavendale. The murderer seems to be searching for a secret linked to Lain. She decides to pursue this mysterious killer. From then on, Lain discovers various revelations about her true identity. Revelations about the real reasons for Stan's mother's death. "Who is Lain?" becomes an increasingly haunting question. Mysterious men dressed in black take Lain in. But where and for what purpose? One of Lain Ikari's greatest mysteries is about to be revealed.

In this second volume, we follow Lain in order to understand the reasons for Stan's mother's death and discover who she is. The relationships between the characters strengthen, even if I had the feeling that one of them was a little more superfluous. This does not change the fact that following them remains a treat and that learning more about them is not trivial at all. It's even nice to see them again.

Story-wise, having read it shortly after volume 1, I still had everything fresh in my head, so some moments seemed repetitive compared to the latter, a feeling of “already read” and part of the plot seemed less developed, more superficial than the others which were gripping, breathless and full of originality. As a second volume, it answers the questions present at the end of the first, which is a good thing!

Some people might have trouble at first since the narrator is external, but finding the thread is quick for them. Others won't have this problem, this element differs depending on the reader. For my part, it took me a few pages before it was good and I fully immersed myself in the work. Moreover, the chapters are neither too short nor too long, which helps with immersion, the pace of the actions or to take breaks if necessary. Yes, it is also important to take them from time to time.

Science fiction is much more present this time, and I loved discovering it a little more in this volume, thinking about how certain elements work. As in-depth as the characters, it's a real plus for the work, the end of which suggests a third volume.

So yes, there are still some flaws, but this second volume is much better than the first and suggests that the next one will be even better. I wanted to get to the end, to continue discovering the characters and this universe. If there is a volume 3, I admit I can't wait to discover it all the same!

Do you plan to continue if you've read it or dive into it?
