Heyy
What? Yes, we're in a sequel this time. A sequel... And the end! Yes, this volume concludes a duology. If you haven't read the first volume, I invite you to read my review of it for the others... It's here!
Two years have passed since the start of the war against the American Empire. Two long years during which all attempts to liberate the occupied continents have ended in bitter failure. And time is running out. The Emperor's popularity and propaganda are spreading a little more every day...
After months of training and preparation, Lucie, Soren, Judith, Mizushi, Edgar, and Mathieu are ready to return to the front lines. And they must act quickly. Things are getting worse on the other side of the Atlantic. Arlando is summoning legions of demons to Earth using the power of the Spear. And soon he will resume his crusade on the rest of the world. From alliances to betrayals, from plots to battles, the group of demigods will have to navigate the horrors of this war if they want to preserve what they believe in.
The author allowed me to dive into the second volume of this story after my review of the first, so I'm taking you straight into it. We jump ahead two years this time and find our characters again. The war is raging, it's bloody and they're suffering too... The battles follow one another and are really detailed so sensitive souls be careful when reading.
Aside from that, and the fact that some might feel a bit tired of the combat scenes, the pace is brisk. As a result, boredom is rare, as calm is rare. The reader barely catches a breath before they are caught up in the events and the protagonists.
The latter have improved, moreover, after the two years spent in Europe, which is a good thing. They have grown, their powers are better controlled; in short, they are managing much better and are questioning themselves in the face of the growing insensitivity they feel in the face of the massacre. I have become attached to some of them, I have suffered too, felt disgust and sadness.
Yes, this volume touches on several aspects. Of course, there are lighter emotions present, lightening the work, allowing us to recover a little from what happened. At least, that's how I felt! It was only towards the end where I had more problems... Because some words were missing, some inversions. Small issues making the reading a little more difficult, which is a shame.
If we remove this element, this last volume concludes the duology wonderfully. I loved discovering it, immersing myself in this universe and everything related to it. I felt this pang in my heart when I reached the last page, leaving everyone. Thank you to the author for this original adventure that will have left its mark on me.
As you can see, this is a good, unusual fantasy duology. It has been masterfully executed, and I'm sure it will find its audience. You just have to be very hooked during the battle scenes, as I explained above.
Hoping to have inspired you to discover the work, I have tried to spoil as little as possible throughout this article so that you can discover this volume in the most neutral way possible. On that note, I leave you and say see you soon for new adventures!
